Peace House Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to helping children in the Kilimanjaro area in Northern Tanzania, Africa who have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Visit Peace House Foundation at: www.peacehousefoundation.org.

Utilize your MBA skills by helping Peace House develop a sustainable model for preparing Tanzanian students to play active roles in building a better, more sustainable future fortheir country. Participate in the design and development of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship center for the purpose of generating new opportunities for the people of Tanzania.

Sustainability and corporate social responsibility – buzz words in today’s business environment. But how do they translate from the classroom to the community? How do companies develop a sustainability strategy that transcends the boardroom, and how can governments follow suit?

In northern Peru, Newmont Mining operates one of the world’s largest gold mines. Through this course, you will apply your knowledge about sustainability by working on consulting projects with Newmont’s Environmental and Social Responsibility team, completing your primary research at Newmont’s mine site in Peru.

In southern Peru, the popularity of UNESCO World Heritage site Machu Picchu poses a dilemma: is it feasible to both promote and protect the site as a tourist destination? Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and learn firsthand about ecotourism.

  • Class will meet for 4 sessions in fall quarter and 2 sessions in winter quarter.
  • Faculty: Scott McLagan
  • Visit Lima, Newmont’s mine near Cajamarca, and hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu!
  • Trip dates: November 29 – December 10, 2008
  • Costs: $2,500 course fee plus tuition, international airfare, and some meals
